Perhaps the funniest thing that could have happened lately was that this anticapitalist cafe and community space near my place was shutting down near the end of May - but because so many Texas and Florida conservatives celebrated it online, the place got a huge donation to keep operating
It’s a great place. It functions mostly like a regular cafe but it has this free/pay what you want drip coffee for anyone who wants it, free bathroom use, and it stocks indie merch and books on antifascist, queer, leftist, socialist, indigenous topics. I’ve met a lot of awesome people there.
Its very existence enrages conservatives, and anarchocapitalists who tried to claim it only to be shown the middle finger by its anticapitalist owner, who is an all around nice dude (and a fellow Elden Ring fan)
If you can toss a coin to its continued operation, please do! Upon request from their followers on insta they opened a Gofundme. Even just a few dollars will be a huge help.

i hate seeing people now making fun of those who care about privacy online. i’ve seen people saying things like “well they already have your data. what are companies going to do with it” and it’s like, that’s not the point. it’s that companies /shouldn’t/ be able to have my data and sell it. am i aware they probably already have my data? yes, absolutely. but i’m still going to try and keep them from monetizing it any further, why are we defending companies selling data they shouldn’t have to begin with though?

Is there any benefit to using multiple ad blockers at once? I honestly don’t know, but I haven’t seen a single ad on the internet in ages and I get to use this image:
PSA, there’s a really nasty Discord scam going around rn. If one of your friends DMs you, starting off with a simple “hello” “how are you”, may even joke around a little, and then starts asking you to look at a game/project they’re working on, don’t click the link, don’t download anything. If you can reach that friend through non-Discord means, reach out and let them know they got hacked.
One of my friends said the link takes them to a very convincing video game page that has in-game screenshots and stuff, and then gives you an option to download a playtest zip file or something. That download exploits a weakness Discord apparently has for password protected zip files and steals your Discord log-in and changes your account info to the scammer’s account info. Two of my friends lost their accounts. Be careful.
Slight adjustment to this… Apparently the virus scrapes all your passwords and files on your computer, not just Discord… It just uses Discord to gain access… Friend had a picture of his license saved on his computer, and apparently the scammers even got their hands on that… So it’s a nasty little hack…
